Compton Arms

Good mews pub, this one. If the hustle and bustle and ever-changing ways of Upper Street are all too much, duck out along Compton Avenue and you'll be confronted with what appears to be a quiet country pub. Inside, too, the Compton is cute and cosy. The narrow drinking space follows the shape of a walking stick, with a snug area to the back-left and more open drinking to the right of the bar. A choice of four ales confronts the newcomer with the usual range of lagers and a small wine list. The heated patio out back provides a bit of fresh air and comes with its own large TV screen. Food is available, and of the homely traditional pub persuasion. The pub is less homely immediately after a gig at the adjacent Union Chapel.
